Discovering Friuli

Friuli Venezia Giulia was defined  by the writer Ippolito Nievo as a "small compendium of the universe", which tells a lot about this region. Within reach in a short time you can very easily go from the mountains crossing lovely hills and plains to the sea with its varied beaches, some sandy and some rocky.

The essence of this Italian corner can be seen also thorough its monuments and residences scattered all over the land: the small mountain villages with houses made of wood, the aristocratic residences formerly owned by the Austrian emperors, the Roman archaelogic ruins or simply all the museums, castles and churches that tell the long story of this border region.

Nature and traditions meet and mingle offering to the curious tourist many chances to learn and love Friuli Venezia Giulia. The deepest roots are to be found in the old crafts and the ancient ways of living the country world that are still preserved with care, such as during famous folk events as the bonfires on the Epifany (Pignarul in Tarcento), the old Palios (Palio of the Turks in Mortegliano), carnivals and the traditional mountain grazing festivals, the medieval re-enactments (Valvasone and Gemona) and the re-enactments linked to the First World War (Redipuglia, Chiusaforte, San Pietro al Natisone).

And what about the food? A rich and appetizing menu prepared with the simplest ingredients but with a tangy flavour form the soups made with vegetables to the home made pasta filled with ricotta cheese, raisins and nuts or with a game sauce, the roast meat, fish and cakes made with distillate...all these delicacies cannot be served without a good wine, another special product of these lands that is famous all over the world.
